The Show Has Been Extended
The Museum of Bad Gifts continues at Northern Contemporary Gallery until January 12th
Great news: the Museum of Bad Gifts will remain open every day until January 12th, 12 to 6 p.m. at 420 Roncesvalles Ave.
People have been coming from all over the place to visit the museum. We’ve had visitors from Whitby, Brampton, Scarborough, and the UK, too. I got asked why Whitby doesn’t have anything as great as our museum. Well, I mean, I don’t exactly know what the arts scene is like in Whitby…
Our wall of drawings at the Bad Gift Drawing Station is completely full, but do not fret: the museum has other available walls for drawings.
And the Bad Gift Auction has been quite exciting. Both the farting pig (also known as a dog toy), which you can see in the photo below, next to the pink roll of toilet paper wearing a pink hat, and Solo Chef cookbook have bids over twenty dollars. People came by near closing time on Sunday to secure their bids, but now that the auction has been extended, you’ll just have to come back to bid again, if you’re intent on owning something from the museum’s collection.
Did I mention someone bid on the bag of cat nails and the person who did that is a friend of mine? It’s true. That actually happened. She said she was at the gallery on a date and her date was [understandably] horrified that she’d bid on them—bidding on cat nails is not a bad move if you’re not interested in seeing that date person ever again.
On Sunday, for the first time since the museum opened, us curators and “young artists” all were at the museum at the same time. After the CBC article came out, I sent them a few corrections, but I didn’t mention the “young” part—the reporter was Martin’s age and I don’t mind continuing to be young, but even my mother thought that describing us as “young” in that article was funny/inaccurate.
In new press, the Red Deer Advocate wrote about the museum, and on Sunday, Steph talked about the museum on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s show, Nightlife.
Come by the museum, at your convenience. The gallery staff members are all back from vacation, so you won’t see us Bad Gift Technicians there all the time anymore—we’re all very busy with other things! But, we’ll be in and out a little bit.
Stay warm out there!
Yours truly,
Shari K.
